What would it be the best duration for workunits?
Keep in mind that the longer they run the better is for us...

What is best for the project, 24 hours, same as PS3 tasks ?

Since I'm not actually running any GPU work (I'm on Windows) its hard to test. My thinking is 24 hours, Users can set thier resource share in BOINC to slow down so it switches between projects and takes time over 3 days or whatever so as not to be running the GPU at full power all the time, BOINC would finish within the deadline on time if necessary. As long as the deadline is not too short.

I think it's not important for us if the checkpoints are sure, IMO

I've just one question, are there actualy different unit duration? I calculated two work unit but the time of calculation was different, the gpu was the same, the frequency too

Thanks

Current GPU wu should last more or less the same time.
The time might depend on if you have used the graphics card in the meanwhile.

I actually like the relative short runtimes of 9-12 hours depending on the cards I have, but if it is better for the project, I would also be ok about 24 hours or longer tasks if needed...
As long as the checkpointing works. But as far as I can tell it does work, so I have no problem with longer tasks!

@Keith
Actually BOINC works a little bit different with GPU tasks and resource share... When I have GPU tasks running, they actually don't switch to other tasks depending on resource share, and switch time, like CPU tasks... They do start and run until completion. Don't know if this is by design, or a bug in BOINC?
