Did somebody anticipate the arrival of an advancement from Boinc? Tut-tut! January in Boinc-time is around October, but not saying which year.

I got a notice today in the BOINC client saying it now has compressed files. Dated the 27th of Feb. Sure enough the work unit it downloaded the files were a lot smaller than normal.

The improvement will come from using a new output file format. It doesn't depend on BOINC client compression (which won't actually achieve any meaningful compression on the new files). MJH

Task 6549894 (long queue) was computed using the new v6.18 application, but the main upload file App118_r1-TONI_AGGd8-16-100-RND6915_1_4 was still 91.34MB - much the same as it has been for all of these recent TONI jobs. Does there have to be a WU configuration change to make use of the new compressed file facility?

Upload size depends on how the experiment is programmed: the behaviour of already-running experiments can not be changed. Forthcoming ones will use the new feature.
